President's Message - September 1, 2020

NOTL Newcomers continues to be here for all of its members during this time of crisis.  Who would of thought back in the Spring that we would still be dealing with social distancing in the Fall!  In March we paused our activities to ensure the health and safety of our members.  Since that time, some groups have been able to find creative ways to "get together" and continue socializing while staying safe.  As well, the Board looked into ways to reach out and undertook the use of technology to continue with our Coffee and Conversations virtually.  Well done to those members who have ventured into new technology and have joined us and shared what they have been up to!

This Fall the Board is continuing to look at ways to reach out to members.  A sub-committee has been formed to look at Virtual Monthly events.  Watch for more information in the October newsletter.  As activities during this time are limited we have agreed to extend memberships from 2019/20 into 2020/21.  No dues are payable and you can continue using your same membership number from 2019/20. A nominal fee of $10 is being charged for any new members to the club.  This gives them access to our website, and any groups and events that are happening, keeping Public Health Guidelines in mind.

I am sure that like me you are missing those varied social opportunities from the past.  As this crisis continues we all need to be creative and find new ways to reach out to friends and family and stay connected.  We will get through this and will be stronger for it.  Things will no longer be done in the ways they used to be, but how exciting it can be to help shape how we will do things in the future!

The NOTL Newcomers Club is for women who live in the Ontario municipality of Niagara-on-the-Lake, which includes Old Town, Glendale, Queenston, St. Davids and Virgil. Our goal is to welcome women who are new to the town, and to help them meet one another and discover everything our unique town has to offer residents.
Membership is open to women who have recently moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL) and also to women residents who have undergone a major change in their lives, such as retirement, and want to become more involved in local life.

During this time of crisis, as many of our usual activities cannot take place, new members may join for $10 and have access to online information.  Some interest groups are continuing via programs such as Zoom.
