Welcome Back Event – Oct 20

The Executive Board and I extend a very warm welcome to all of our members, whether you have just joined, or are a returning member.  Our Welcome Back Event for this year is on Wednesday, October 20, at the Pavilion in the Virgil Sports Park, off Four Mile Creek Road.  We have decided on a Picnic Event and ask members to bring their lunch and come along to see friends, new and old.  The Picnic Event will run between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  This get together is also an opportunity to renew your membership for $25 and to sign up for Interest Groups of your choice.

Photo Scavenger Hunt

During October we are holding our second Photographic Scavenger Hunt.  This time we will focus on the Queenston area.   Information about this fun activity is included along with this newsletter.  Members will have until October 26 to complete the hunt. This is a great opportunity to check out the Queenston area of Niagara-on-the-Lake.  Here's the link to the Photo Hunt

Annual General Meeting – November 17

Plans for our in-person Annual General Meeting are underway for this Fall. The date for this important event is Wednesday, November 17.  Plans are underway to hold this event indoors at the Community Centre.  Doors will open at 1:00 p.m. and the Meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m.  Due to Covid-19 protocols attendance will be limited to 100, therefore, members will need to confirm their attendance.  Register to attend.

Executive Positions

It is important that Newcomers continues to be a viable social club in Niagara-on-the-Lake.  To this end we need to seek out new Executive Board members.  Our Board is made up of a group of enthusiastic volunteers who meet on a monthly basis to plan and deliver a variety of activities for you, our members.  If you have enjoyed being a part of Newcomers, please consider putting your name forward to become part of a team of dedicated volunteers. The experience is rewarding and not a great deal of your time is required.  At this time many of the current Board has agreed to stay in their position until the next Annual General Meeting which is planned for May 2022.

Open Executive positions include:

  • Hospitality
  • Interest Groups

If you are interested in meeting and working with some great women please contact:  Pauline Miller at 905-468-0486

Coffee & Conversation

Our Coffee and Conversation events have been well received, especially with our newest members.  October 29 is the date for our next gathering, which will be at the Pavilion in Virgil Sports Park.  Plan to wear your Halloween Costume! An email notification will be sent to members a few days prior to the event.

As the weather turns colder we will need to move indoors or virtually. Future dates for Coffee and Conversations are:  November 26 and December 17.

Reaching Out to All Interest Group Conveners

We ask all current and/or recent Interest Group Conveners to contact Sue Ksiazkiewicz at or 905-359-7804, so that we can finalize plans for Interest Group Sign Up at our Welcome Back Event on October 20.  We want to make sure that members are aware of all the Interest Groups we have and can sign up for them.  We understand that some groups may wish to stay on pause until after Covid-19 restrictions are in place, but we would appreciate hearing from you as well.

New Ideas for Interest Groups?

Do you have an idea for a new interest group?  Send your idea in an email with details to Sue Ksiazkiewicz at including when and where you plan to meet.  You do not need to be an expert, just have an interest. All groups do however require a Convener and must be approved by the Board before we can begin the promotion and sign-up process.  Send your information in now so that your group can be included in our Welcome Back Event Sign Up, October 20!

Festival Luncheon

This year our Festive Luncheon will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn (York Road and Glendale Avenue) on Wednesday, December 8. Doors open at 12:00 p.m. and the Buffet will be available shortly after that.  Tickets are $40.00 per person.  Seating is limited, so get your ticket early

Tickets are available online and at our Welcome Back Event on October 20 and at Coffee and Conversation on October 30.  This Event is open only to current members.

Membership Renewals

Now is the time to think about renewing your membership for the 2021/22 year.  As you can imagine, while we have not met in person we still have incurred costs during the past year, such as honorariums, insurance, website and dues to the National Association. The Board has pro-rated membership dues for the 2021/22 year to $25 for the upcoming year and will return to the usual fee of $30 for 2022/23.

As of June 1 members were able to renew their membership via the website at .  Members are reminded that September 30 is usually the last date to renew their membership for the upcoming year, we have extended this to October 31 this year.  Anyone wishing to renew and not use the website (i.e. pay by cheque) should email our Membership Director, Karin at for instructions. Members will be notified of their new membership number.  New Membership cards will be distributed in the Fall.   Members can also renew their membership in person at Coffee and Conversation events.
